Do you remember back in March 4 the Dimboola Bowling Club, Dimboola-1 side defeated Horsham City-1 in the grand final of pennant bowls.
A very momentous moment for the Bowling Club and a trophy to hang on the club wall so they can stand around the bar and reminisce the day they came through as the underdogs to win the grand final.
Six months further down the track and last Saturday the time came to receive their trophy. The team gathered at the Dimboola Bowling Club for the presentation of the trophy.
The time was arranged to meet at 9.30 am and invite the media to come along to record this historic occasion.
The president Darryl Argall said, “the trophy had not arrived as planned and we will just use an old one for the presentation.”
The trophy was due to arrive at 1.00pm that day from the Wimmera Bowls Division.
Mr Argall proceeded with the presentation without the trophy.
Local Dimboola Wimmera Bowls board member Karral Haby presented the trophy to Mr Argall on behalf of the Wimmera Bowls Division.
“Let me say I am very disappointed that the Wimmera Bowls has taken six months to give us our trophy,” said Mr Argall.
“It is something you would expect to have presented on the day,” he said.
According to Wimmera Bowls they had to get all the players names put on the trophy before they could present it.
“Normally you would get your trophy the day you win a grand final. They could have put the names on it after the presentation,” Mr Argall said.
“Despite my rant about Wimmera Bowls the Dimboola 1 had a great year last year with starting the season unable to get a win. It was not until we got a taste of a win at Nhill that we started to climb the ladder to make it to the finals, eventually winning the grand final.“
“We were the underdogs that won the the grand final trophy,” said Mr Argall.
“Let’s hope we can do a back to back grand final this season,” he said.
Come 1.00pm and a box arrived to the Dimboola Club rooms. With excitement knowing the content would be the treasured trophy the box was opened to find that the Dimboola Bowling Club was the recipients of a box full of all the trophies for the Wimmera Bowls Division.
Everybody’s trophy for the 2016/2017 season was sent to Dimboola. After sorting through the box of trophies it was discovered that the players names had not been engraved on the trophy as expected.
The trophy now has to go back to the engravers to have the names put on.
Each player received their medal on the day of the grand finals.
