On Tuesday 10th October the Hindmarsh Shire Council hosted a civic reception in honour of the Order of Australia Central Highlands Regional Group ‘Student Citizenship Awards’.
Many years ago the Order of Australia Association established the Student Citizenship Awards to recognise the outstanding achievements of secondary school students across Australia.
Ballarat City Council has been hosting the annual awards for the past six years. Last year, the awards were introduced into the Hindmarsh Shire and this year the awards have expanded into the Horsham Rural City Council schools, as well as into the Yarriambiack Shire Council schools.
At the Hindmarsh Civic Reception, awards were presented to Elena James, Nhill, Kimberley Roll, Rainbow, and Daniel Polack, Dimboola.
Daniel’s award citation was presented by Order of Australia Association member and Dimboola resident Mr Daryl Argall AM, and reads as follows:
“Daniel is a student who is always willing to have a go at anything. His friendly, helpful, well-mannered nature endears him to people of all ages and walks of life.”
“He is the male Form Captain of his year level and regularly attends Student Representative Council meetings to voice the opinions of his peers regarding matters around the school.”
“Daniel is an enthusiastic supporter, player and boundary umpire for the Dimboola Football Club. He also plays for the Dimboola Cricket Club and the Antwerp Tennis Club.”
“Daniel is a role model at Dimboola Memorial Secondary College and in the wider community.”
“We congratulate Daniel on his nomination for this prestigious award and wish him well for the future,” Mr Argall said.
