This weekend the Ace Radio Dimboola Fishing Classic will be held on the Wimmera River at the Dimboola Recreation Reserve in support of Dimboola’s Allambi Nursing Home.
The radio station secured the naming rights to the fishing classic, after a Horsham newspaper had sponsored the event in previous years.
The Dimboola Fishing Classic is the Wimmera’s only “bank and boat” community-based fishing event, with a purpose to raise funds for the Allambi aged care facility in Dimboola.
Fishing Classic co-ordinator and Allambi board member Stoph Pilmore said, “Allambi, like many aged facilities, struggles to meet basic financial commitments required to run an aged care facility. Government funding is often structured on an economy of scale basis, meaning our facility requires additional beds to receive the appropriate amount of funding to meet our running costs.”
“The Dimboola community has always been committed to supporting Allambi where it can, but there are only so many raffles and sausage sizzles the board can run,” he said.
“With community support for the Dimboola Fishing Classic, not only will participants have a fantastic weekend of fishing with some great prizes up for grabs, but will also be contributing in helping us assist to meet Allambi’s basic commitments. These types of fund raising help in securing its future and ensuring the elderly of the community are well looked after in the community that they have lived, worked and raised families in.”
“So grab your fishing gear and head down to the river with the family for a great day, this Saturday, and support Allambi,” he said.
This year the winner will be a trip of the the Great Barrier Reef on a fishing charter boat.
“There will also be lots of good prizes for the juniors as well, so it makes a great family day out,” Mr Pilmore concluded.
