DISAPPOINTMENT: WORDS member, Melissa Evans, ponders the thoughtless acts of the thugs who wrecked one of Warracknabeal’s popular street libraries over Easter.

THUGS have struck again at the Street Library box at Anzac Park, destroying the box in a heartless attack on Easter Monday.

Warracknabeal’s WORDS group suffered yet another attack on one of their street libraries when the Anzac Park library was smashed into oblivion with books strewn all over the kids playground area sometime between 9.30pm and 11pm on Monday night. The attack occurred during a 90 minute rampage of five or six youths who were heard yelling and screaming down Scott Street that Police were called on to investigate.

“It’s really disappointing to see this happen,” said SC Baldock from the

Warracknabeal Police.“It is the third time this particular box has been targeted,” she said.

The box had been moved to the interior fence line of the kid’s playground following a previous attack.

Police are asking for the public to come in to the station to have a chat about anything they saw or heard on that evening.

“We need more information and any information the public could provide would certainly help us,” SC Baldock said on Tuesday morning.

The books were retrieved by the Police and handed over to the WORDS group with the remains of the library passed to the Men’s Shed for repair.

“We will continue to bring the joy of reading to people despite this setback,” said WORDS member, Melissa Evans.
