THE sound of music filled the air at the creek end of Scott Street in Warracknabeal on Sunday morning as bands from the Wimmera Bands Group and guest band from Werribee showcased their musical talents.
For the first time in 20 years, Warracknabeal hosted the event in which six bands took part in the march, each taking centre stage and then a mass-march in which 80 musicians took part.
In ethereal scenes, the bands marched from Kelsall Street to Phillips street shrouded in the low-lying fog that enveloped the region.
A welcoming crowd was on hand to cheer on the bands and they thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment. One spectator was overheard saying it was a really special moment to watch.
“We have the most numbers of bands taking part in Band Sunday for a number of years,” said Band President, Col Newell.
“It was really good to see so many bands and people there,” he said.
Rotaract provided a marvellous BBQ lunch for musicians and audience alike before the concert at the Town Hall.
An audience of about 300 filled the hall for an afternoon of musical delight with the six bands joined by another five to perform a wide variety of music from classical pieces to more modern tunes.
“While the concert took longer than we anticipated, I’m really pleased with the outcome,” Mr Newell said.
The Anglican Church ladies put on wonderful afternoon tea/early supper following the end of the concert.
“We would like to thank the Shire for giving us a grant to run the day’s activities and closing the roads for the march,” he said.
“We also would to thank the Anglican Church ladies and Rotaract for feeding everyone during the day,” Mr Newell concluded.
The bands that took part in the day were:

• Werribee Concert Band
