Join Shannon and Emma Byron at the farm at Kellalac, Wimmera as they host a field day and share what they have learned on their journey to become more resource efficient.

A third generation Wimmera farmer, operating a mixed broad-acre cropping, sheep and cattle farm with Shannon’s parents Kim and Lynette, they operated a no-till system with stubble retention since 1985.

Seeking answers to poor crop health and the need for ever increasing amounts of costly inputs, but not getting anywhere, Shannon started to look for answers.

In 2019 Shannon and Kim embarked on a journey to become more resource efficient, reducing high cost inputs, improving soil health and fostering a farm that remains profitable even during challenging years.

This event is an on-farm demonstration where Shannon will share his knowledge and lessons learned, and explore the changes they made, the challenges they faced, and the positive impacts witnessed on their land and the family’s livelihood.

Explore the practical changes implemented.

Join Shannon and guest speakers for insights from other farmers who have embarked on similar journeys, as well as soil nutrition experts and from a farmer on how to build carbon in the soil.

We believe that sharing our experiences, both the challenges and successes, is essential to fostering a stronger agricultural farming community.

This is a free event, with morning tea and lunch provided.

Please RSVP to Bev Middleton at middletonbev9@gmail.com by Tuesday October 10.
