Protect yourselves online

• Laura Hartley

ENJOY the benefits of living life on-line but protect yourself and stay in control of your personal information when connected to the internet.
This is the message the Warracknabeal Action Group wants people to listen to when they host two cyber safety information seminars in conjunction with the NAB on June 19.
The Cyber Safety security awareness session will cover several topics:
• Spotting scams
• How to identify suspicious messages
• How to protect your devices and online banking.
Presenter, Manager of Security Advisory and Awareness, Enterprise Security of NAB, Laura Hartley, will also teach guests about the latest online threats and the basic steps that can be taken to stay safe on line.
Scams and identity theft target people of all backgrounds, ages and income brackets across Australia.
Using Bureau of Statistics figures, the incidents of identity theft and being subjected to theft online of both personal identity and money, have increased significantly over the past few years.
WAG is urging everyone to attend a session to avoid being just another piece of the statistics.
The sessions are free and everyone is welcome to come along to learn how to protect themselves when using the internet.
Sessions will be held at the Senior Citizens Club rooms at 2.30pm and then at the Yarriambiack Shire Meeting room at 6pm.
Anyone interested in attending, please RSVP for catering purposes to the Warracknabeal Herald on 5398-8033 or David on 0418504059.
