Police were called to the Western Highway bypass at Dimboola where a truck had pulled over onto the side of the road and went a little too far from the bitumen at about 2.30 am Wednesday last week.

The truck sank into the ground on the verge on one side, to a point that the truck almost tipped over onto its side.

Heavy rains had softened the shoulder of the road and the verge was unable to take the weight of the truck.

Dimboola Police Senior Constable Neil Zippel said, ”the highway had to be partially closed with police directing traffic around the site while a crane was called in to assist with the recovery.”

Sergeant Veronica Dempsy and Leading Senior Constable Neil Zippel, Leading Senior Constable Les Newton from Nhill and Leading Senior Tony Clark from Rainbow attended the scene.

The truck was recovered without damage.
