• PROJECT: Warracknabeal residents Jenny and Des Taylor have purchased the Palace Hotel in Warracknabeal and have begun renovations with the hope of opening by the end of the year.

THE Palace Hotel, Warracknabeal will likely reopen by the end of the year as returning Warracknabeal residents Des and Jenny Taylor work to refurbish the iconic building.
Mr Taylor said he and Jenny had always planned to return to Warracknabeal and thought reopening the Palace would be a great opportunity.
“It has been about seven years since the hotel was operating. I have many great memories or times at the Palace as a young fellow, so it will be great to see the old pub back to life,” Mr Taylor said.
The hotel will be licensed to host about 160 people with Des’s nephew Matthew Joblin coming from Shepparton to run the business for him.
“The amount of support we have received from family and friends has been phenomenal,” Mr Taylor said.
Mr Taylor has plans to bring some of the Palace’s old world charm into the new age.
“We want to bring the original back with modern touches,” he said.
Works are underway to restore the brick walls to their former glory, new shutter windows are in store for the front bar area, and even a beer garden.
“We are going to turn the drive through into a beer garden and there will be a doorway between the front bar and the lounge to allow easy access,” Mr Taylor said.
“We are putting in a modern commercial kitchen with brand new appliances so we can provide quality traditional pub style meals. One thing I want to do well is meals,” he said.
Mr Taylor said he was proud to be supporting the community he grew up in.
“We are proud to be using local businesses for as much of the work as we can,” he said.
Mr Taylor has had a few different professions throughout the years including the Australian Army, serving in Vietnam, as a truck driver, bar attendant at the Royal Mail Hotel, and owned a cleaning business and a fruit and vegetable business in Horsham.
Following the update of the main patron area, Mr and Mrs Taylor will focus on bringing the accommodation upstairs back to its former glory.
“Once we have finished with the work downstairs, we will then focus on renovating the rooms upstairs for accommodation,” Mr Taylor said.
