The Dimboola Football and Netball Club held its annual Life Member’s Luncheon at its clubrooms last Saturday.

Approximately 60 people attended with the highlight being the attendance of players from the 1959 Grand Final side that defeated Warracknabeal in a thrilling match by one point.

Of the 10 premiership players that survive today, Athol Jones, Bob Shipsides, Bob Watson, Ian Schneider, Ian Lehmann and Alan Wollerman were in attendance. Family representatives also gathered at the clubrooms to reminisce.

Other players from 1959 included Howard Grieg, John Schneider and Bill Hutchinson.

Dimboola Life Member Peter Harradine whose father Lester Marks played in the side read out player profiles printed in the Banner 60 years ago. He also prepared framed photograph certificates with photographs of each of the members of the team to be presented to the players or family members in attendance at the luncheon.

At the conclusion, all six players recalled their efforts on the historic day in Dimboola’s football history.
