Preparing for Great Cycle Challenge

• Karlene Heathcote and Beth Matuschka prepare to ride for a wonderful cause, raising money to help children diagnosed with cancer, by riding around the district.

The Great Cycle Challenge started in 2013 and has grown to become one of the biggest cycling events in Australia. Over the six years fifty five thousand riders have ridden over thirteen million kilometres and raised over sixteen million dollars for research to develop better treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
Each year six hundred children are diagnosed with cancer and sadly three children die each week from cancer.
Rainbow residents Karlene Heathcote and Beth Matuschka are taking part in this year’s challenge. Each morning they are out soon after seven, riding around town training for the event.
Karlene took part in last year’s challenge while Beth has previously taken part and is back on the bike after two years of not riding.
Karlene is aiming to ride 250 kilometres and raise $500 while Beth has set her target at 100 kilometres and $200. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
Cash donations can be left at Mallee Magic while people can also donate by going to the Great Cycle Challenge website. Karlene and Beth will also be holding a raffle with the date to be announced.
Give Karlene and Beth a wave when you see them on their bikes and consider supporting these two ladies and their worthwhile cause.
