The newspaper's detailed coverage of domestic violence issues - pioneered by Wimmera Mallee News journalist Zoey Andrews and which ran across all the group's papers during May and June - is finalist for the Best Editorial Campaign award.

Sister paper The Horsham Times also has been shortlisted to collect the top honour in its category.

It won the award for Overall Newspaper Excellence last year, and is now in the running to repeat the feat.

More than 30 publications across Victoria are represented on the shortlist of finalists for the awards night on November 15.

A total of 536 entries were submitted for this year's "newspaper oscars".
