Horsham Rural City Council (HRCC) has cancelled its annual Australia Day Ski Show.
Horsham Rural City Council (HRCC) has cancelled its annual Australia Day Ski Show.

In a statement issued this afternoon it read, "while council made extensive efforts to maintain the water level using the weir, a combination of consistently high temperatures and lack of rain has led to evaporation outpacing the ingress of water."

The water level has fallen to 1.2 metres in the main ski areas and has the potential to fall further in the coming days which has been deemed unsafe for skiers.

While the Ski Show has been cancelled, the Summer Series event at the Riverfront Meeting Place will still take place.

“The lower river level leads to a greater risk of submerged objects being struck by boats or skiers, and there is much more water weed visible as well, which would make it more difficult for skiing," HRCC Director Infrastructure John Martin said.
