WOW day is held each year during National Volunteer Week, encouraging Australians to wear orange clothing items or accessories to acknowledge and express their thanks to hardworking SES volunteers.

In Horsham, WOW was celebrated with a morning tea to honour SES volunteers, organised by Victoria Police Horsham Senior Sergeant Brendan Broadbent at the SES operations unit in McPherson Street.

Horsham police officers and SES office staff also attended to give thanks to the volunteers.

Snr Sgt Broadbent said SES volunteers did much more than simply carry out rescues, helping the police in many ways.

"It's important to recognise these volunteers and acknowledge their significant work," he said.

"Not one person has complained about the work they do - they just get on with it.

"This is a thanks to them for the support they supply us."

For more than 40 years SES volunteers have beein involved in floods, storms, high-angle rescues, road crash rescues and more.

Alongside Lions Club, Rotary and RSL volunteers, SES helps with the Driver Reviver program that offers free coffee, tea and snacks at roadside locations.

SES community resilience co-ordinator Jordan Bush expressed his thanks during his speech.

"Thank you to our volunteers for doing what you do," Mr Bush said.

A range of volunteer roles is available in SES, including in boat rescue, community engagement, road crash rescue response, and support.
