Coughlin Park and Horsham City still lead the way
After round five of the Wimmera Lawn Bowls Pennant competition, Horsham City and Coughlin Park remain unbeaten, having comfortably defeated Kaniva and Dimboola, respectively.
At Horsham City Bowling Club, the home team defeated Kaniva 83 to 56, winning two rinks to one. Rink one, skippered by City's Daniel Gloury and featuring Bruce Campbell, Colin Morrell, and Derek Ballinger, won 40-20 over Kaniva's rink, which featured Maree Van Kempen, Colin Maddern, Malcolm Coutts, and skipper Jeffrey Meyer.
The other rink that won was skippered by Kevin Clyne and featured Graham McDonald, Govan Bellinger and Michael Turner. They defeated Kaniva 24-14. Kaniva's rink was skippered by Bruce Dodson and featured Darren Maddern, Christopher Larocca and Tyler Cooper.
Adrian Coud skippered Kaniva's winning rink, which featured Russell Crouch, Steve Duthie, and Paul Pearson. It defeated City's rink, skippered by Ron Dolby and featuring Geoffrey Inglis, Gary Knight, and William Hogan, 22-19.
Coughlin Park travelled to Dimboola and won 77-48, winning all three rinks, one of which was a thriller.
In the thriller, they won 21-20. Michael Ellis skippered the rink, which featured Charles Officer Peter Beasley and Paul O'Shannessy. Greg Cook skippered Dimboola's rink, which featured Judith Albrecht, Robert Pyers, and William Eldridge.
Coughlin Park won comfortably in the other two rinks. The rink, skippered by Anthony Woodhead featuring Rowan Hawkins, Robert Mewburn and Terry Sartori, won 29-12. Dimboola's rink featured Shirley Thomas, Peter Harradine, Wayne Albrecht and was skippered by Alan Krahe.
The other rink won 27-16 and was skippered by Robin Shaw, featuring Allan Thompson, Kevin Cramer and Mervyn Dean. Dimboola's rink featured Mervyn Roberts, James McRae, Darryl Both and was skippered by Peter O'Loughlin.
At Goroke Bowling Club, Goroke/Edenhope defeated Sunnyside 83-60, winning all three rinks.
Rink one, skippered by Hugh Caldow, featuring Richard Smith, Frederick Lowe and John Burchell, won 25-21 over Sunnyside's rink, which featured Rod Skurrie, Paul Southcott, Chris Trotter, skippered by Stuart Cowan.
The second rink won 26-23. It was skippered by Philip Robinson and featured Bruce Ackland, Wayne Caldow and Alan O'Bryan. Sunnyside's rink was skippered by John Ackland and featured Dale McRae, Gavin Watson and Jillian Coutts.
The third rink, skippered by Geoff Lowe and featuring Terry Exell, Travis Crawford, and Barry Crick, had an easy 32-16 win over Sunnyside's rink, skippered by Rex Bergen and featuring Brendan Lloyd, Roger Macinnes, and Neil Magor.
At Nhill, Nhill got the better of Horsham Golf, winning a close match 72-60 and two of the three rinks.
One of the winning rinks was skippered by William King and featured Leslie Reichelt, Ross Cramer and Ray Olney. They won 25-14 over Horsham Golf's rink, skippered by Geoffrey Bald, which featured Danny Schmidt, Ken McClelland and Craig Turvey.
Their other winning rink featured John Brown, James Morrison, and Brad Blackwood, but it was skippered by James Jones. They won 28-23 over Horsham Golf's rink, skippered by Ashley Batchelor and featuring Bradley Robinson, Stephen Harris, and Chris Mellor.
Horsham Golf's winning rink was skippered by Gavin Walter and featured Graeme O'Connor, Heath Miller, and Hayden Tucker. They won 23-19 over Nhill's rink, skippered by William Gebert and featuring James Dunlop, Greg Ryan, and Ryder Byrnes.
In division two, Nhill remains on top of the ladder despite losing to Hrosham Golf, 67-58, at Nhill Bowling Club. Coughlin Park joins them in second place on the same number of wins, with four defeating Dimboola 85-50 at Dimboola Bowling Club.
In the other two matches, Sunnyside defeated Goroke/Edenhope, 85-54, and Horsham City defeated Natimuk, 73-68.
In division three, Coughlin Park 3 and Horsham Golf are unbeaten, with the former on top of the ladder. Coughlin Park had a thrilled 56-54 win over Nhill 3 at Nhill. In the other three matches, Horsham City defeated Nhill 4, 104-28, Sunnyside 4 defeated Coughlin Park 4, 65-51 and Sunnyside 3 defeated Kaniva 63-56.
In the midweek Pennant competition, after round four, Horsham City lead the way following a 94-52 win over Kaniva last Monday, October 28. In the other three matches, Dimboola defeated Sunnyside 70-65, and Nhill defeated Coughlin Park 85-56.
In division two, Horsham City, Serviceton, and Sunnyside, with three wins each, fill the top three on the ladder.
Serviceton defeated Sunnyside 62-44, Coughlin Park defeated Horsham City 54-50, Dimboola defeated Natimuk 52-38, and Goroke Edenhope defeated Coughlin Park 62-24.
