Dimboola hosts successful Trimax Sand Greens Championships

The 2024 Victorian Trimax Sand Greens Championships, a 36-hole event contested over various grades, was held on Saturday and Sunday. 132 golfers from around Victoria came to compete.

he Victorian Sand Greens Championships have been contested since 1972 (men) and 1975 (women). As the titles suggest, the Championships are played on a course with greens comprised of oiled sand and are unique as it requires players to rake and then smooth their line of putt before play.

Edward Carracher from the Euroa Golf Club won the men's event with a score of +2. Craig Boucher (Midlands Golf Club) was second with +4, and Stephen Valentine (Kew Golf Club) was third with +6.

Horsham's Brett Cookson was the best Wimmera player in a tie for fifth with +13.

Rodney Whittle (Elmore Golf Club) won the B-grade with +30 ahead of Graeme Brierley (Tocumwal Golf Club) on +31 and Thomas Love (Mitiamo Golf Club) on +32.

Dimboola's Jacob Miller was the best Wimmera player in a tie for sixth with +40.

In the Men's A-grade Net (Stableford), Dimboola's Nathan Schorback won +4p ahead of Nicholas Barned (Loch Sport Golf Club) -1p and Darren Edwards (Beechworth Golf Club) -4p.

In the Men's B-grade Net (Stableford), Rodney Whittle won with a score of +4p. Lindsay Smith (Avenel Golf Club) -2p and Thomas Love (Mitiamo Golf Club) -4p were rounding out the podium. The best Wimmera player was Jacob Miller, who was tied for third.

Ballarat's Kristie Kennedy won the women's event with a score of +18. Jaqueline Baker (Peninsula-Kingswood Country Golf Club) was second with +27, and Nhill's Libby Lacey rounded the podium with +28.

In the B-grade, Millie Cumming from Mansfield won with +44. Rounding out the podium from Midlands Golf Club was Judi Guest with +46, and in third was Robyn Bate (Numurkah Golf Club) with +49.

The best Wimmera golfer was Beth Preston from Jeparit Golf Club, who had +68 in ninth position.

Horsham's Annabelle Plowright won the women's A-grade net (Stableford) with a score of +3p. Chloe Mulraney (Kaniva Golf Club) with par and Virginia Bailey (Mansfield Golf Club) with -7p were rounding out the podium.

Judi Guest won the women's B-grade net (Stableford) with a score of +4p. Millie Cumming (Mansfield Golf Club) was not far behind, with +2p in second, while Quarry Hill Golf Club's Kirsten Butler was third with -5p.
