Dimboola produce stunning upset

Dimboola caused a massive upset in the Wimmera Region Lawn Bowls Pennant competition, defeating Horsham City 88-66 at Dimboola Bowling Club on Saturday.

Horsham City entered round eight undefeated, while Dimboola sat in the bottom two. Dimboola won all three rinks, stunning Horsham City.

Rink one, skippered by Alan Krahe, featuring Wayne Albrecht, Peter Harradine and Shirley Thomas, won 32-19 over William Hogan, Gary Knight, Geoffrey Inglis and skipper Ron Dolby.

Rink two, skippered by Greg Cook, featuring Robert Pyers, Mervyn Roberts and Judith Albrecht, won 29-22 over Bryan Avory, Govan Bellinger, Graham McDonald and skipper Kevin Clyne.

Rink three was the closest on the day, featuring Mary Argall, Greg Albrecht, Darryl Both and skippered by Peter O'Loughlin. They won 27-25 over Derk Ballinger, Colin Morrel, Bruce Campbell and skipper Daniel Gloury.

The thrilling match of the day was at Kaniva Bowling Club, where Kaniva defeated Horsham Golf in a one-shot thriller and won two of the three rinks in a 75-74 victory.

Kaniva's rink one lost 19-34. It was skippered by Adrian Coad and featured Russell Crouch, Steve Duthie and Paul Pearson. Golf's rink was skippered by Gavin Walter and featured Denis Ballinger, Darryl Phillips and Hayden Tucker.

Kaniva's rink two won 29-18. It was skippered by Jeffrey Meyer and featured Malcolm Coutts, Colin Maddern and Robert Puglisi. Ashley Batchelor skippered Golf's rink which featured Danny Schmidt, Adam Galpin and Robert Grieger.

Darren Maddern skippered rink three to a 27-22 win. His rink featured Christopher LaRocca, Bruce Dodson and Tyler Cooper, and they were too good for Golf's rink skippered by Bradley Robinson, featuring Geoffrey Bald, Stephen Harris and Trevor Ough.

Coughlin Park had an 82-61 win over Sunnyside at Coughlin Park, winning two rinks. Their first rink won 28-15 and featured Timothy Nihill, Robin Shaw, and Charles Officer, with Michael Ellis as the skipper. John Ackland was the skipper of Sunnyside's rink, which featured Dale McRae, Murray Heard, and Jillian Coutts.

Rink two, skippered by Craig Decker featuring Allan Thompson, Kevin Cramer and Mervyn Dean, won 30-19 over Rod Skurrie, Gavin Watson, Chris Trotter and skipper Stuart Cowan.

Sunnyside's winning rink, skippered by Rex Bergen and featuring Brendan Lloyd, Paul Southcott, and Ron Tollbring, won 27-24 over Terry Sartori, Peter Beasley, Rowan Hawkins, and skipper Anthony Woodhead.

At Goroke Bowling Club, Nhill defeated Goroke/Edenhope 85-61 in the final match, winning all three rinks.

Rink one, skippered by William King, featuring Leslie Reichelt, Greg Ryan and Ray Olney, won 28-20 over Barry Crick, Matthew Anderson, Terry Excell and skipper Geoff Lowe.

Rink two, skippered by William Gebert, featuring James Dunlop, Wayne Robins and Ryder Byrnes, won 35-23 over Richard Smith, John Burchell, Travis Crawford and skipper Hugh Caldow.

Rink three was the closest. Skippered by James Jones, featuring Brad Blackwood, James Morrison and John Brown, they won 22-18 over John Moloney, Wayne Caldow, Bruce Ackland and skipper Philip Robinson.

In division two, Nhill 2 remain two games clear of Horsham Golf 2 after defeating Goroke/Edenhope 2, 92-46. Horsham Golf 2 defeated Natimuk 97-54, Horsham City 2 defeated Dimboola 2 84-67, and Sunnyside 2 defeated Coughlin Park 2, 88-68.

In division three, ladder leaders Coughlin Park 3 lost to Kaniva 2, 83-41. Coughlin Park 4 defeated Sunnyside 3 71-36. In the other matches, Sunnyside 4 forfeited against Nhill 3, and Horsham Golf 3 forfeited against Horsham City 3.

Midweek Pennant

In midweek pennant round seven, played on Monday, November 18, Dimboola remains a game clear on top in division one, defeating Coughlin Park 93-44. In the other two matches, Nhill defeated Kaniva 100-45, and Sunnyside defeated Horsham City 76-50.

In division two, Horsham City remains a game clear of Serviceton following a 62-33 win over Sunnyside. Serviceton defeated Dimboola 53-45, Natimuk defeated Coughlin Park 49-40, and Goroke/Edenhope defeated Coughlin Park 54-40 in the other matches.
