The Warrack Eagles started their pre-season on Saturday with a meet and greet with new coach Matt Walder and a training run at Anzac Park.

The wet conditions didn't damper spirits with over 30 players showing up.

The session started out inside the clubrooms with Walder outlining his plans. It took about 45 minutes and Walder said that the feedback was positive from the players.

"I was projecting what was happening over the pre-season and how we go about it," he said.

"I shared with them my thoughts and philosphies and general understanding of me.

"I posed three questions to the group about the club themselves and what they want to achieve and got a lot of good responses, and the big key response was 'respect'."

Following that, they had a light run on the field for an hour running laps and going through some basic skill drills.

Walder liked what he saw from the group.

"We don't take too much out of the first session. It was all about getitng them moving and kickstarting the campaign," he said.

"It was a good starting point. I looked at strengths and weaknesses and there was no assessments, it was just getting out there. The vibe was pretty good."

The Eagles will be training every Wednesday afternoon up until Christmas and then in the new year it will move to two nights a week.
