First foot forward for massive build
The first pour of concrete at the Quality Australia Hay (QA Hay) site on Henty Highway yesterday has set the foundations for the multimillion dollar hay plant, offering a new avenue for local farmers looking to export their hay to international markets.

Six years of planning has gone into the build, which will see the Australian designed and manufactured plant include the latest electrical, hydraulic and safety technology.
The plant will be capable of storing 35,000 tonnes of hay, and is designed to accommodate road trains and shipping containers, with a production rate of up to 28 tonnes per hour.
QA Hay’s general manager Micha Mueller said the plant will operate 24 hours a day, five days a week, and will employ about 60 workers, in both full-time and casual positions.
“We will begin buying hay this season, and we plan to be up and running at full speed within 12 months,” Mr Mueller said.
“We hope to hold a Grower’s Day in the coming weeks to introduce ourselves to the community, and meet with potential clients and interest parties.”
