Foster excited about Stawell Gift
At just 13 years old, Georgia Foster from Horsham is gearing up for an exhilarating challenge as she prepares to compete in the Under 18s race at the prestigious Powercor Stawell Gift this weekend.
With a starting handicap of three meters, Foster said she is excited to test her skills against older competitors and soak in the unique atmosphere of the renowned event.
"It feels pretty good. I am happy I get to see my friends. It's also pretty cool that I get to compete against older girls," Foster said.
Foster has a busy schedule. She competes in the Little Aths Gift on Saturday and then tackles her qualifying race on Sunday, with the possibility of advancing to the final on Monday morning.
Peta Bond, Georgia's mother, expressed pride in her daughter's achievements.
"She wanted to do it, and it's a lot of fun. The Stawell Gift is a remarkable experience," she said.
"The atmosphere is amazing, so if you get a chance to give it a go, give it a go.
"There's a lot of buzz around it as there will be world-class athletes present, and you will never get a chance to run with them again. It's a super fun experience more than anything."
