Any town with a population of up to 5000 can now apply for funding for infrastructure projects such as community hall and library upgrades, and construction of hiking trails, playgrounds and splash parks.

Deputy Leader of the Nationals and Member for Lowan Emma Kealy is urging small communities across western Victoria to apply for funds under the Tiny Towns program.

The grants range from $5000 to $50,000, for which community and non-profit groups and councils in towns can apply.

Ms Kealy said tiny towns were the backbone of many regional areas.

“Tiny towns provide a crucial hub for many people living in the country, as well as an attractive destination for tourists," she said.

“Through this program communities can apply for grants to help deliver local projects that benefit locals and help attract visitors.

“It would be great to see as many communities as possible across Lowan benefit from this funding."

Applications will close at 5pm on Sunday February 25.
