GPs urged to take up new training offer
General Practices across the Wimmera are being encouraged to apply and benefit from free training to assist in addressing family violence.
The package is being offered by Western Victoria Primary Health Network (WVPHN) and comes after Crime Statistic Agency figures revealed eight local government areas in western Victoria are among the 20 areas with the highest incidence of reported family violence in the state.
“These statistics are staggering and need to be addressed on multiple levels,” WVPHN CEO Craig Wilding said.
“Within the health sector it is imperative that patients who are experiencing family violence are firstly identified and secondly provided with the right assistance.
"To help address this, we have worked closely with GPs to find approaches, such as Family Violence A-Lives, that can assist all GPs to work proactively with patients experiencing family violence.”
The package aims to foster an environment where patients feel heard, safe and seen, and guided towards the help needed.
Primary health professionals who participate in the training program receive a $2000 payment.
