Grant to power significant projects

The Beulah General Store have received $10,000 from the Yarriambiack Shire Council's SHARE grant program to fund a major redevelopment for the Beulah Hub that will be located at the former Roundabout Hospital site.

The proposed site is owned by Rural Northwest Health (RNH) and is currently home to the community centre and supermarket.

The Beulah hub will house a tourist information centre and allow historic information, that have been stored away, to be on display.

Chairperson of the Beulah General Store Shaun Thompson said the grant money will go towards preliminary works on the site.

"This money is about getting building background checks done," he said.

Building inspections, structure assessments and asbestos checks will be carried out to allow an engineer to prepare draft plans that will ultimately be submitted for a larger grant offered by the government.

Mr Thompson said they are planning to apply for the $5 million precincts and partners grant which will also cover other significant works such as upgrades to the community centre, football sheds, new toilets for the bowls club and construction of the supermarket.

"The supermarket is the main priority but these projects have been on the back burner for a long time.

"This gives us the opportunity to extend the life of the building."

Mr Thompson said all agencies involved are working together and have also partnered with RNH and the Yarriambiack Shire Council.
