As part of the launch of Grampians Health’s Environmental Sustainability Plan, environmental and sustainability officer Sam Harris has made a pledge to help safeguard the planet.

CEO Dale Fraser said as a leading health care provider in Victoria, Grampians Health recognised its responsibility to lead by example in addressing human-induced climate change while minimising its impact on the natural environment.

Mr Fraser said through energy-efficient systems, green building practices and waste reduction strategies, Grampians Health aimed to create an environmentally conscious healthcare service that serves as a model for others in the industry.

"The Environmental Sustainability Plan is a testament to Grampians Health’s dedication to environmental excellence and served as an inspiration for others to follow," he said.

"With climate change posing significant challenges globally, especially impacting the health of communities and the environment, Grampians Health is dedicated to taking proactive measures.

"The next decade is crucial and we are committed to immediate action."

Chief redevelopment and infrastructure officer Veronica Furnier-Tosco said the Environmental Sustainability Plan would provide a clear roadmap for Grampians Health to make informed decisions, adopt low-emissions technologies, plan and invest in long-term sustainable development.

"Our targets support the Victorian Government’s Climate Change Strategy to reduce the state’s emissions from 2005 levels to net-zero emissions by 2050," Ms Furnier-Tosco said.

Environmental and sustainability officer Sam Harris, who helped develop the plan, said she was extremely pleased to see Grampians Health taking great steps towards improving environmental sustainability.

"Our task force is committed to ensuring our responsible use of environmental and financial resources to reduce waste generation, focusing on prevention, reduction, recycling and repurposing to minimise negative effects on human and environmental health," Ms Harris said.

"Together, we can make a difference for future generations."
