Horsham and Birchip Rifle Club's win way to Skene Shield Rifle Final

Long-range rifle shooters from Birchip, Horsham, Natimuk, Stawell, and Hamilton Rifle Clubs gathered at the Horsham Rifle Range on Saturday to compete in the annual Skene Shield target rifle shooting competition.

The Horsham Club won by one point over Birchip, 411 points to 410, followed by Stawell on 404, Hamilton on 401, and Natimuk on 399.

Horsham and Birchip now go onto the Skene Shield final at Stawell in October to compete against Rifle Clubs from the Maryborough, Bacchus Marsh, and Geelong areas.

Top shooters on the day were Tony Crisp from Birchip, who was the only shooter to shoot a perfect score of 105, George Holden of Stawell on 104, Alister Row from Hamilton and Craig Leamon of Horsham, who both shot 103, and John Read of Natimuk with 102.
