Horsham City and Coughlin Park going strong

Horsham City and Coughlin Park are the two remaining unbeaten teams in division one of the Wimmera Region Lawn Bowls competition.

Horsham Golf entered the round unbeaten but faced Coughlin Park, who won 76-64. Horsham Golf won two rinks, but it was rink three that was the killer for Horsham Golf, with Coughlin Park winning it 35-13.

Michael Ellis skippered the rink, which featured Robin Shaw, Charles Officer, and Paul O'Shannessy. Geoffrey Baird skippered Horsham Golf's rink, which featured Danny Schmidt, Heath Miller, and Ken McClelland.

Horsham Golf's rink one, skippered by Ashley Batchelor, featuring Chris Mellor, Stephen Harris and Bradley Robinson, had a tight 24-21 over the rink skippered by Anthony Woodhead, featuring Terry Sartori, Rowan Hawkins and Craig Decker.

Rink two for Horsham Golf was skippered by Gavin Walter and featured Graeme O'Connor, Graeme Deleeuw, and Hayden Tucker. They defeated Coughlin Park's rink, skippered by Greg Sleep and featuring Allan Thompson, Kevin Cramer, and Mervyn Dean, 27-20.

Horsham City had an 81-58 win over Goroke Edenhope. City's rink one, skippered by Daniel Gloury, featuring Bruce Campbell, Bryan Avory and Derek Ballinger, won 37-13 over the rink skippered by Philip Robinson, Wayne Caldow, Barry Crick and John Moloney.

Horsham won rink two in a close match, 24-20. Kevin Clyne captained the rink, which featured Graham McDonald, Govan Bellinger, and Colin Morrell. The home side's rink, skippered by Hugh Caldow, featured Richard Smith, John Burchell, and Gerry McDonnell.

Goroke Edenhope did manage to win a match, 25-20. Geoff Lowe skippered that rink, which featured Travis Crawford, Barney Mulraney, and Trevor Prior. Anthony King skippered Horsham's rink, which featured Ron Dolby, Geoffrey Inglis, and William Hogan.

At home, Nhill defeated Sunnyside 86-62, winning two rinks and losing the other in a thriller.

In rink one, they won 24-19. It was skippered by Allan King, Ivan Reichelt, Barry Cramer and Daryl Leyonhjelm. Sunnyside's rink featured Jillian Coutts, Barry McIntyre, and Dale McCrae, skippered by John Ackland.

Rink three, skippered by Kevin Jones, featuring Brad Blackwood, Barry Morrison and Roger Brown, won 35-14. Sunnyside's rink was captained by Stuart Cowan and featured Gavin Watson, Rod Skurrie and Debra Macinnes.

Sunnyside won the closest rink of the day, 29-27. It was skippered by Rex Bergen and featured Brendan Lloyd, Roger Macinnes and Neil Magor. Nhill's rink was skippered by Greg Ryan and featured Russell Dunlop, Shaun McDonald and Ryder Byrnes.

On Sunday, Kaniva and Dimboola battled, with Kaniva winning 87-65. Kaniva won two rinks. One was skippered by Bruce Dodson and featured Russell Crouch, Tyler Cooper and Christopher LaRocca. They defeated Peter O'Loughlin (skipper), Darryl Both, Alan Krahe and Mervyn Roberts 36-28.

Their other rink won 28-11. Jeffrey Meyer skippered it and featured Malcolm Coutts, Colin Maddern, and Janet Kuchel. Dimboola's was skippered by Greg Cook and featured Mary Argall, Donald Haines, and Judith Albrecht.

Dimboola's win came through the rink skippered by Robert Pyers and featuring Wayne Albrecht, Peter Harradine, and Shirley Thomas. They won 26-23. Kaniva's rink was skippered by Darren Maddern and featured Paul Pearson, Adrian Coad, and Steve Duthie.

In division two, Nhill and Coughlin Park remain unbeaten. Coughlin Park defeated Goroke/Edenhope 96-60, and Nhill defeated Natimuk 88-50. In the other matches, Sunnyside won 83-62 over Horsham City, and Horsham Golf defeated Dimboola 81-54.

In division three, Horsham Golf is the only undefeated side following a 67-51 win over Nhill #3. Coughlin Park defeated Kaniva 63-57, Nhill #4 defeated Sunnywide 70-56, and Coughlin Park defeated Horsham City in the other three matches.
