Kalkee 13-and-under netballers win seventh flag in 14 years
Kalkee has had a solid 13-and-under team over the last 14 years, winning premierships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2022. In 2024, they have secured another, defeating Laharum by four goals.
It was a tight first quarter, with Laharum taking a one-goal lead into quarter-time. The Kees scored eight goals in the second while keeping Laharum to two to lead by five at the main break.
In the third quarter, it was goal-for-goal, with the Kees able to maintain that lead heading into the last quarter.
The Demons stormed home in the last, scoring seven goals to four, but the Kees lead was too big, and they were too strong, holding on to win 23-19.
Ella Schultz scored 13 goals and was awarded best on the court. Tayla Streeter scored 10.
Stephanie Plazzer was excellent for Laharum, scoring ten goals, with Chloe Butsch and Eden Dunn scoring seven and two, respectively.
Kalkee coach Ami Beddison said it was a strong competition and was thrilled for the girls.
"It was a really good competition this year as the top seven were quite even across the board, and we had a lot of close games throughout the season, and it was great to see for junior sport how close it was," Beddison said.
"We had a great year and we also had three girls in the Interleague representative squad: Ella Schultz, Taylor Streeter, and Maggie Beddison.
"The girls did a fantastic job today, and I am proud of them. I had 12 girls play today and got them all on the court so they could experience the success and what grand finals are all about."
