Laharum Football Netball Club will support the TAC Road Safety Round at their home game this weekend with a distinct message; "Be a Speed Demon on the field and not on the road."

They play Kaniva Leeor in round 14 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.

They released a statement this week explaining what they hope to achieve.

"We have chosen the tagline. 'Be a Speed Demon on the field and not on the road'.

To spread this message further, we will find out who our club's Speed Demon is at training this week.

Our club is keen to support the TAC Road Safety Round and spread the message, especially in light of the recent road accidents on our roads over the last few weeks.

We are scheduled to play Kaniva United this round, and Kaniva will travel over 140km to our ground.

Clubs travel vast distances each weekend to grounds for matches, and the conditions can be hazardous, especially during winter.

This is a good time to highlight road safety messages and encourage our club members to follow them.

This weekend, the players will wear the TAC road safety armbands during play, and we have changed our digital message at the entrance to our ground with our tagline about speed demons.

We encourage our supporters, opposition, and the general public to spread the road safety message."

Tragically, 157 people have lost their lives on Victoria’s roads this year, and 84 of those have been on regional roads. The consequences of a crash on high-speed rural roads are often worse, and the devastation is felt across the entire community.

On the field, Laharum will look to continue their winning ways, with Kaniva Leeor a tough matchup, after showing improvement as the season has gone on.

Laharum improved from zero wins in 2023 to eight this season. They are fourth on the ladder and will play in the finals.

Senior co-coach Shan Argall said they need to be able to take the next step.

"We have gone from being a poor side to being a good side, and the next step we need to take, to have aspirations to be a great side, is not having bad games and being consistent over four-quarters," Argall said.

"We are speaking a lot about mental preparation and doing what you need to do to get ready in games, stick to how we play best, and treat games as mini finals, which will hopefully put us in good stead come finals."
