It's the first time Little Aths Victoria has done a winter comp, with three rounds, two weeks apart, in Melbourne. Round one was at Casey Fields, round two was at Whittlesea City, and round three was at the Newport Athletics Track.

Four Horsham athletes went in round one: Evaya Meek, Asha Meek, Jett Hill, and Benjimen Jowett; five in round two: Jack Sawyer, Mitchell Sawyer, Jett Hill, Benjamin Jowett, and Asha Meek, and three in round three; Chris Burton, James Burton, and Asha Meek.

All athletes did extremely well and to have a solid representation from the region was a positive.

Each age group had five events each round, and to score, you had to compete in all of them to be in the running for a medal. Events were a mixture of track and field.

On the track, there was a 60m, 300m, and 700m event, but the field events changed each week. The field events included discus, long jump, javelin, high jump, and shot put.

The distances and rules were unique for each event. For example, everyone had to do the same distance run up for long jump, and when you did discus, you had extra points and extra distance added on for accuracy.

Meek nearly got a personal best in the high jump, but she is working more on her technique as she has just moved from scissors to flops. Her PB as a scissor is 1.35m, and as a flop, it's 1.33, but she did a 1.32.

Meeks's father, Matt, said the experience was awesome and that they are proud of her achievements.

"In these events, you never know who turns up; for example, the highest-ranked boy in Australia in the high jump showed up one week," Meek said.

"Asha considered it a way to have fun and keep competing in the off-season. We stayed with family and friends each round and made a trip to it, and it's pretty good. We all enjoyed it, and we are proud of Asha."

"Asha just wants to do it for the heptathlon as that's a primary goal next season through Little Athletics and Athletics Victoria.

"There is a lot planned with her coach, Ricky Price, and she has just wrapped up her footy season after Taylors Lake under-14s lost on Sunday, so now it's time for athletics season to begin."
