Murtoa blessed with local traditional butcher again
Free to read: After an extended period of time of Murtoa lacking a butcher, the town is once again blessed with an experienced butcher.
Phil Bell, a highly experienced butcher of over 47 years relaunched a butchers shop as ‘Bell’s Family Butchers’ earlier this year on the same site Kevin King, ran a butchers in Murtoa for many years before closing down and retiring. Before him Rex and Janine McKay ran the butchers.
Mr Bell has operated butchers all his life in places like Mt Isa, Maryborough QLD, Broken Hill and more recently Murchison.
“If I’d known Kevin was going to close up I would have put my hand up much earlier and kept the business going. It was only that my family has contacts in Jeparit and heard it was closed, so the brain started ticking and we decided to re-establish the butchers for Murtoa, but would have done so much earlier if I’d known,” Mr Bell said.
“We’ve fully refurbished the old butchers premises in its original site at 45 Duncan St, just near the Memorial Hall, so call in and say hello,” he said.
Being a traditional family butcher, Mr Bell makes all his own smallgoods fresh, such as sausages, smoked cabana, stras’ and bacon, as well specialities like his popular florries, traditional hamburgers and even pickled pork and silverside all, in-house.
Most products are clearly on refrigerated display in the bright and clean new look butchers…and if you are planning a special event don’t forget to ask about hiring a spit for that fabulous spit roast.
