MEMBERS of the Horsham Jellybeans Playgroup are set to make a fresh start to 2022 at Horsham Neighbourhood House on Robin Street.

Previously hosted at the Uniting Church, the new location was set up by Jellybean Playgroup founders Wimmera Development Association, who had established the community group to help new arrivals and their young families settle in Horsham.

WDA settlement services manager Sara Barron said the new space for the playgroup couldn’t have worked out better.

“The playgroup was set up as a way for migrant parents to come together, network, and support their children in the process,” she said.

“We’ve never had a permanent venue for the group, so we’ve always worked with partners to provide that space.

“WDA has been doing a lot of partnership work with Horsham Neighbourhood House and they kindly stepped in and offered to provide that space.

“It’s a really lovely venue and the manager at Neighbourhood House has been really proactive in what he can bring for the playgroup.”

For over 35 years Horsham Neighborhood House has been providing non-for-profit adult education, community services and more to the Horsham area.

Neighborhood House manager Charlie Helyar said he’s looking forward to making a brighter, more inclusive community working alongside Jellybeans and WDA.

“The Horsham Neighborhood House is excited to have Jellybeans carry out their program at the House,” he said.

“The playgroup last year decided to hold their Christmas break up at the Neighborhood House space so they could get a feel of what the facility was like and introduce it to their cohort.

“That was a really successful day. We probably had around 50 people come along to that event which gave good exposure to the venue and showed what could be expected in the new year.

“Like most Neighborhood Houses, the Horsham branch is an inclusive environment that is there to support the whole community. So we welcome the group and look forward to working together.”

After beginning more as a immigrant-focused community group, Jellybeans Playgroup has since opened its doors to all members of the Horsham community.

Ms Barron said Horsham Jellybeans, today, stands as a celebration of diversity and inclusion amongst its guests and workers.

“A few years ago the Playgroup was opened up to the wider Australian community with the view for community connection and cohesion,” she said.

“At the Horsham branch we have also had Australian families join the group which has been really lovely.

“It’s been a great way to share traditions, cultures, be more inclusive, and encourage the next generation to become more integrated and feel more a part of the community.”

Horsham Jellybeans Playgroup recommences it's 10am to 12pm Tuesday sessions on February 8.

Guests are asked to bring a gold coin donation.
