Panthers and Bombers move clear

Rupanyup and Noradjuha Quantong have moved a game clear of Kalkee in the battle for second, following wins over Kalkee and Natimuk, respectively, in round 14 of the Horsham District Football Netball League.

In the match of the round at Rupanyup Recreation Reserve, the Kees took it to the Panthers early, leading by two goals at quarter-time.

An excellent second quarter saw them extend the lead by five goals at half-time.

The Panthers came out firing in the third quarter to level the scores up 24-all at three-quarter-time.

An excellent last quarter, restricting Kalkee to three goals, saw the Panthers run out 35 to 27 goal winners.

Zanaiya Bergen scored 23 goals for the Panthers, with Bianca Drum and Lucy Bussenschutt, their best players at goal attack and goalkeeper defensively.

Jenna Bywaters scored 14 goals for Kalkee, with Penny Fisher and Georgia Schultz their best.

Noradjuha Quantong thrashed Natimuk by 34 goals at Natimuk Showgrounds.

The Bombers came out firing, scoring 16 goals to lead by 11 at quarter-time before a 17-goal second quarter saw them extend that margin to 20 points at the main break.

In the third quarter, the Rams battled hard with the Bombers leading by 23 goals at the main break.

The last quarter was outstanding for the Bombers, who shot 21 goals to win 66 to 32.

Shannon Couch scored 51 goals in the win, continuing her run of brilliant form, with Brooke Pay and Holly Nuske excellent at goal defense and center, respectively.

Emma Uebergang shot 26 goals for the Rams with Ebony Rintoule their other best player at goalkeeper.

Bombers coach Fiona Rowe said it was a team effort.

"The girls are playing excellent netball at the moment, and everyone got on and played their role," Rowe said.

"They are a super bunch of girls and are super connected and are continually adding new elements to improve their game, mostly through connectedness."

Saints score a tough win against spirited Southern Roos.

Edenhope Apsley has survived a scare to continue their momentum with a tough five-goal win over Harrow Balmoral.

The Southern Roos led by three goals at quarter-time before the Saints leveled the scores at half-time.

10 goals to nine in the third quarter saw the Southern Roos retake the lead by one goal heading into the final quarter.

The Saints, a more seasoned outfit, forged clear in the last quarter to win 39 to 34.

Lavinia Fox was outstanding for the Saints with 25 goals, while Rebecca Heath was excellent in defence.

Tori Dunstan led the way for the Southern Roos with 20 goals, and Febey McLure was excellent in the attack.

Southern Roos coach Emily Langley was thrilled with their performance.

"It was fantastic; the girls played so well, and it blew us all out of the water with how well we played," Langley said.

"We have been ticking along in recent weeks, and our narrow loss to Taylors Lake a few weeks ago just fired the girls up as we wanted to win that match, so they were more hungry, and it showed.

"We are starting to play well as a team, especially now with Amber McLure and Jorja Jones back. The midcourt is now settled, and Tara McIntyre and Tori Dunstan have really stepped up, and everything is clicking nicely."

Caitlin Jones-Story's 56 goals lead the Demons to a resounding victory over the Cougars.

Another phenomenal shooting display from Caitlin Jones-Story has helped lead the Demons to a 29-goal win over Kaniva Leeor.

The Demons were on fire early, scoring 20 goals in the first quarter to take a 13-goal lead into quarter-time. The Cougars fought hard in the second quarter, but the Demons kept rolling, extending the margin to 18 goals at half-time.

The Demons kept the Cougars at bay in the third quarter, leading by 23 goals at three-quarter-time. It was a formality in the last, with the Demons running out 70 to 41 winners.

Emalie Iredell was terrific in defence for the Demons.

Blair Burke scored 30 goals for the Cougars with Zoe Hawker excellent through the centre.
