Pay rise for local councillors

The region’s mayors and councillors have been given a 3.5 per cent pay increase, as public sector pay rises kick in across the state.

Horsham Rural City Council mayor Robyn Gulline now earns a base allowance of $109,114, while deputy mayor Penny Flynn sees her salary jump to $54,558.

Horsham councillors each now receive $34,028, in line with their counterparts on category two councils.

Mayors in Yarriambiack, Hindmarsh and West Wimmera Shire, in the lowest of the four council categories, receive $84,498, while deputies are on $42,248 and councillors $27,291.

Extra payments include a remote area travel allowance equal to $47.50 per day for eligible mayors, deputy mayors and councillors, up to a maximum of $5937 per year.

The pay rises are set by the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal.
