Pride on the line

With the finals places nearly decided, pride will be on the minds of three of the four football teams playing this weekend in round 14 of the Horsham District Football Netball League. The other team has a very slim mathematical chance of making the finals.

Edenhope Apsley is that team, only two games and a percentage behind Rupanyup, but they face the daunting task of hosting a Harrow Balmoral side that is back to its best.

The Southern Roos struggled through rounds five to ten but are back to their best, with the youngsters all gelling. In recent weeks, Rhys Daffey has been the highlight for the Southern Roos, kicking eight goals in the last two games. Michael Close is also back to his brilliant best, and they have handled Brait Headon's season-ending knee injury well.

The Saints will be looking forward to the challenge.

Rupanyup returns from the bye and hosts Kalkee, and a win will secure that final spot. The Panthers have been battling in recent weeks, but fresh off a bye, they will be ready to come out firing as they build towards peaking and being at their best for the finals, which has been the aim all season.

Noradjuha Quantong will look to bounce back from last week's massive loss to Harrow Balmoral when they meet their neighbours, Natimuk, at the Natimuk Showgrounds.

The Rams stormed home in the last quarter in round 13 to nearly win their second match of the season.
