Road work upgrades part of $1bn blitz
More than 50 regional roads are to be upgraded as part of a nine-month state government package launched on October 14.
The Horsham-Kalkee Road is one of the biggest projects.
Repairs will be conducted on the stretches between Ladlows Road and Wail-Dooen Road, and between Dimboola-Minyip and Old Minyip Road.
The Western Highway will be the focus of attention near the Mallee Dam Road intersection at Nhill and at the Nea Nhill-Harrow Road.
The Warracknabeal-Birchip Road between Sexton Road and Naughton Road, Morton Plains, is also due for a touch-up.
Roads were selected based on expert studies and community feedback.
Victorian Roads Minister Melissa Horne said the regional maintenance program would be delivered during the upcoming warmer and drier months.
The regional repair bill of $675m is part of a broader almost $1 billion statewide package which Ms Horne described as “the biggest single-year investment in road maintenance in Victoria’s history“.
“Crews will be out delivering $2.6 million of works every day for a year - with around 70 per cent of all funding going towards our regional roads,“ she said.
Work will range from road rehabilitation and resurfacing to patching potholes and maintaining bridges, traffic lights, signage and road infrastructure.
