St Michaels dethrone Central Park in thriller
St Michaels' has knocked off top-of-the-ladder Central Park, 8-6 at St Michaels Tennis Club in round 11 of the Central Wimmera Tennis Association.
The scores were tied 2-2 after the doubles sets. St Michaels wins came through Peter Hayes and Nick Robertson defeating Matt Jones and Reece Harman 8-7 and Kassie Peachey and Barb Crough defeating Eve Wear and Blair Penrose 8-3. Central Park's wins came through Harry Allan and Brendan Nitschke, who defeated Chris Ellis and Joel Rees 8-6, and Willow Sainsbury and Courtney Cameron, who defeated Mia Rees and Jess Cannane 8-2.
Central Park then took a 5-3 lead after the singles sets. Harry Allan defeated Joel Rees 8-2, Willow Sainsbury defeated Mia Rees 8-1, and Matt Jones defeated Peter Hayes 8-6. Kassie Peachey defeated Eve Wear for St Michaels.
St Michaels bounced back in the next four doubles sets, winning three to level the scores 6-6 again.
Nick Robertson and Chris Ellis defeated Reece Harman and Brendan Nitschke 8-7, Jess Cannane and Barb Crough defeated Courtney Cameron and Blair Penrose 8-3, and Peter Hayes and Chris Ellis defeated Matt Jones and Brendan Nitschke 8-6. Central Park's win came through Willow Sainsbury, and Blair Rose, who defeated Mia Rees and Barb Crough 8-5.
The match went down to the final two doubles sets. Nick Robertson and Joel Rees defeated Harry Allan and Reece Harman 8-6 in a thriller, and Kassie Peachey and Jess Cannane got the job done, defeating Eve Wear and Courtney Cameron 8-4.
Drung South was too good at home in the other pennant match, defeating Kalkee 13-1.
