Building and civil works to make over the Jeparit Swimming Hole precinct are almost complete, and the area is expected to be officially opened at a ceremony in March.

After close to 12 months of works, instant turf was laid in December, following the installation of an automatic sprinkler watering system.

The turf faced repair work following vandalism just before Christmas, and Victoria Police and council are still asking the public to assist with investigations.

The transformation to the precinct has already been well received by many community members, with comments of “how awesome does that look”, “amazing”, “looks fantastic” and “looks fabulous” received.

The new amenities block and camp kitchen were made operational by Christmas as well.

At its meeting on December 13, Hindmarsh Shire Council voted to permanently close George Street to vehicular traffic from the eastern boundary of the Jeparit Caravan Park to the western boundary of the tennis courts for the safety of those enjoying the Swimming Hole precinct.

Removable bollards have been installed, allowing access for construction, emergency and maintenance vehicles.

Following community consultation on November 27, council is currently investigating options for the construction of a new playground and will again consult with the community when further information is available.
