Tellbach wins VRA Medal
Each year, the Victorian Rifle Association (VRA) presents each of the State’s 40 long-range target Clubs with a VRA Medal and Spoon for competition within each Club.
The VRA Medal competition is between shooters who have not previously won a
Medal provided they shoot a qualifying score. Shooters who have previously won a
medal shoot for a VRA Spoon. Both prizes are highly sought after by Rifle Club members.
Local shooter Marriane Tellbach has won the Horsham Rifle Clubs’ VRA medal for 2024 with a score of 116.9 out of 120. Marriane has developed into a very skilful target shooter.
She shoots a high-power rifle in the F Standard division, which is a standard target rifle with a telescopic sight.
VRA spoon winners for the three various shooting disciplines were Geoff Evans, who scored 99.9 out of 100 in the Target Rifle division, which is a standard target rifle with iron sights. David Watson, with a score of 118.4 out of 120, won the Open Telescopic sight division, and Trevor Heinrich, with a score of 117.11, won the Standard Telescopic sight division.
A highlight of the day was that the Wimmera’s World Shooting Champion Ash Hawker, originally from Kaniva, visited the Horsham Rifle Range to congratulate the Medal and Spoon winners. Ash won the Universal Trench (UT) World Clay Target shooting title at Umbriaverde in Italy in August 2022.
Universal Trench is an international shooting discipline where clay targets are thrown
at random angles and speeds from a trench in front of the shooters.
All Wimmera Club shooters, regardless of whether they shoot rifles, shotguns, or pistols, are very proud of Ash for winning the World Shooting Title.
