Thousands turn to The Orange Door
Since its opening in September 2022, The Orange Door Wimmera has provided support to more than 4200 people - including 1800 children. That equates to more than 50 a week.
The service supports people experiencing or who have experienced family violence.
"All victim survivors of family violence should be able to get the support they need, where and when they need it," a Department of Families, Fairness and Housing spokesperson said.
This support can be by email, face to face or by telephone.
"It brings together specialist family violence, child and family and Aboriginal services to provide crisis assistance and support, needs and risk assessment, planning around safety and connection to other services," the spokesperson said.
"The Orange Door in the Wimmera works with local partner agencies including family services and Aboriginal services, including Grampians Community Health, Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Cooperative, Uniting Vic Tas and Child Protection services."
The Orange Door also works closely with Victoria Police to ensure every victim survivor is supported, including when making a police statement.
Being able to make a statement at the service is an initiative that is new, enabling victim survivors to have a family violence worker present in what might feel like a less confronting environment.
The Orange Door Wimmera is open from Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.
